Alphabe-Thursday - G is for "Going Away"

Ok class, time to report to Mrs. Matlock's room and turn in our essays for Alphabe-Thursday. This week we are to write about the letter G.

Mrs. Matlock, I promise to behave this week. Muse and I are very sorry for disrupting class last week. But we were just giddy to be in the same class!

This week, G is for "Going Away". 3 weeks ago, I received a message from my cousin asking if we were attending a family wedding. At the time, I really didn't think we would be able to attend because of some major upheavals that are going on in our lives right now. But my DH (and this is why he is a dear) said that we should attend. My Aunts and Uncles are not getting any younger, and I haven't seen some of my cousins in 30 years. He said I would be sad if the next time I saw everyone was at a funeral. That thought galvanized me into action!

In order to take the time off for the trip, I had to bribe the boss. So I offered to get him a six pack of a specialty beer that is brewed in Mississippi!

So, bright and early Friday morning we will gas up the car and hit the road. This is my family on my father's side. I've had to make a chart for Cait - our family has more forks than a restaurant and she didn't want to embarrass herself not knowing who was who. I told her that I wasn't going to recognize some of the people either, but you know how college girls are - so darn serious!

We are going to Columbus, Mississippi. I can't wait to take pictures! There are some gorgeous antebellum homes downtown. In fact, second only in number to Natchez.

I also want to visit my grandparents farm. The old home place has long since been torn down, but the farm is still there and my cousin Charles runs it now.

There are also several famous "haunted" sites in Columbus. So maybe I'll bring back a picture of a ghost!

I apologize in advance if I don't comment on everyone's post right away. I have no idea what kind of internet service we will have. But I promise to visit everyone when we get back!

Now make sure to stop by Jenny Matlock's to read all the wonderful essays on the letter G.

Have a wonderful time! Your family tree sounds like mine on my Dad's side anyway. My widowed great grandmother with 10 kids married my widowed great grandfather who already had 10 kids too and created a very blended family. I even have some cousins who are married to each other (so yes I guess I am truly from the south, but I digress). Can't wait to see your pictures!
