Outdoor Wednesday - Caldwell County Courthouse

Time once again for Outdoor Wednesday, graciously hosted each week by Susan at A Southern Daydreamer. Make sure to visit Susan's beautiful blog and see some wonderful outdoor photography.

On New Year's Day, we took a little road trip to South Texas. One of the stops we made was in Lockhart, to see the gorgeous Caldwell County Courthouse. To learn more about this beautiful little town, click here.

Main view of this beautiful historic landmark.

Side view - isn't that tree grand?

A bit of the roof detail. Photos really don't do this building justice.

If you happen to be in South/Central Texas and find yourself in Lockhart, make sure to visit this gorgeous old building. And while you're there, treat your self to lunch at Black's BBQ.
Black's is one of the pillars of Texas BBQ. The food is amazing, the place is fun, and you'll be glad you stopped!

Great pictures!

I've got a Black's BBQ T-shirt in my closet and the memories of some really good brisket, but sadly I forgot to bring my camera that day. This is one of the Texas court houses that got away.

I didn't get the chance to go but I heard that Lockhart has another really good family owned BBQ called Kreuz Market.

Hi,
My grandmother lived in Lockhart...and Black's BBQ, especially the sausage, is worth driving there to experience. I can remember when I stayed with my grandmother in the summer that they had "homecoming" parades around the courthouse square. We also would visit the stores that graced the square like Duke and Ayres 5 and Dime, Ole Bossy milk and ice cream store, Glossermans Dry Goods, etc. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Now those are some fine examples of architecture, which, as you know, makes this Muse's heart sing!

And you have captured them with such flair!

Hi Kathy!

What a beautiful building! They certainly don't make them like that these days. I loved the giant tree on the side. Is one a magnolia tree/

Texas BBQ sound so good even this early in the morning!

What a gorgeous building! The detail is wonderful. There are so many beautiful buildings around the country...wish I had been interested in photography all those years ago.

Black's BBQ sounds like the place to stop...I'll pass it along to my brother. (He and old law school buddies take a trip each year..."The Great BBQ Hunt". They fly to a location, then travel for the weekend, eating BBQ around the clock. They're searching for the best "Q" (and decompressing). Southern Living wrote about this trip several years ago.)

Smiles,
Jane (artfully graced)

I love old buildings. I always imagine the people who have been there many, many years ago. Especially when it is a building where my ancestors would have been.

That has to be the most beautiful courthouse I have ever seen. I'll tell you one thing though, if I ever make it out that way, I'm calling YOU to take me on the Grand Tour — Texas-style! You always take us to the best places on Outdoor Wednesdays.

Did I hear BBQ, I loves me some BBQ! I used to go to a place in California called Dr. Hogly Wogly's Tyler Texas BBQ. The guy who opened it in the late 60s was from Tyler and he knew how to BBQ. Not much more than a shack, but those are usually the best places.

Thank you for guiding a wonderful landmark architecture.
I was surprised to look in the greatness first.

From the Far East.
Best regards.
