Outdoor Wednesday - Ruins in Central Texas?

If it's Wednesday, that means it's time to head outdoors! We have been having beautiful weather here in Central Texas and hubby and I wanted to spend the weekend taking some shots with his new camera. I ended up coming down with the flu, so I sent him out anyway with my brother in law. I needed pictures for Outdoor Wednesday! Little did he know that when he took up this new hobby that he was going to become my official blog photographer. He did say that I agreed to the new camera purchase a little too quickly lol. Susan from A Southern Daydreamer graciously hosts this event every week. It's so much fun to see what everyone has to show of their own great outdoors, especially at this time of year. There is so much gorgeous fall color to be seen in so many parts of the country. Make sure to stop by http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/ to see what everyone is sharing this week.

These shots were taken in Salado, Texas, a small town just north of us. It it well known for it's many quaint shops and galleries. We have lived here since 1982 and just discovered that at one time there was a small college located in Salado. The buildings have now fallen to ruin, but they made for some spectacular shots at sunset.

Hope you enjoyed these photos of a beautiful Central Texas sunset. I just wish that you could feel the warm breeze and smell the grass. Since the rains have returned, everything is alive and lush once again. But there is just a touch of autumn in the air, letting us know that soon we'll be bringing a thermos of hot chocolate on these outdoor shoots!

Those photos are beautiful!

I didn't realize till now that you are in Texas. Hubby and I met and married in West Texas....can't seem to find good Mexican food anywhere else, especially not here in Oregon. The beans...Oh I miss the beans!

It sounds and smells lovely, Kathy!! ;-). The photos are absolutely stunning with the sun coming through the ruins of the college. The buildings almost look like old castles. How lucky you are to live here!!

These are beautiful photos, Kathy! I don't know why but I am fascinated by ruins that is why I enjoy touring Rome and Pompeii and seeing all the old ruined buildings. And yes, I am in Natchez. Who is the author of the book you just read? Greg Iles live here and most of his books are set in Natchez. If you like good mystery books, you should read some of his books.....Christine

The place looks like ancient ruins. The glow of the sun made the photos so dramatic.

Please tell your hubby, the photos are so lovely!

It took patience to wait for the sun to reach that exact spot in the college ruins. Kewelopolis images!

Kathy, the photos are lovely!!! What kind of camera did you just buy? We just bought a new one too (previous post to Outdoor Wednesday Post) & I look forward to playing with it. Your husband did a marvelous job capturing the light in these photos. I would love to know where this old ruin is. We go to Salado often & have for years (were stationed at Ft Hood years ago, in fact our oldest son was born there) Hope you are over the flu. NO FUN!!!!

Hi Kathy! So nice to hear that you read Greg Iles books. I have read each and everyone of them. His wife and kids live in our neighborhood, same street but he has another house where he does his writing, also in town. His dad is employed by the same hospital as John so we see him a lot too, great physicain and so amazing at his age. We just saw Greg last week and he said his next book is due in Dec. and he has not even started it yet. Writers are in so much pressure too, isn't it? I learned more facts about this town from his books than actually living here....Christine

Sometimes, it seems that ruins are even more intriguing than what things once were. That is a wonderful place for photos. It is so charming. Love the stone.

Love the photos! They capture the spirit of Saledo.

My family and I stopped in Saledo several years ago, on our way home to Plano from San Antonio. It was such an interesting little town. There was a restaurant there...rather a fancy one...who graciously entertained my brood dressed in our muddy shoes (we'd been in the caverns up the road). I recall that it had fabulous food. And the hospitality (Texas style) was superb.

Thanks for sharing. Hope you stop by my blog for a visit.
