Oudoor Wednesday - Praying for Rain

It's Wednesday, so that means it is time to go outdoors! Outdoor Wednesday is graciously hosted by Susan at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Susan has a beautiful blog full of wonderful photographs and decorating ideas. This is one of my favorite blogland events, especially right now. It's so hot that I'm not going out much, so I enjoy the virtual tours of cooler places. And I especially love seeing pictures of beautiful gardens and lawns that are still alive! As I'm sure you've heard me gripe, er, explain, Texas has been in the middle of one of the worst droughts in our history. I thought I'd give you a little show and tell of how bad it really is.

Last week, I heard thunder - yes THUNDER! I was so excited to go outside and see this. This is the pretties sky I've seen in months!

Now here's something I haven't seen in a long time - raindrops on my car!! Yippee!!

I was so happy that I ran right outside and starting splashing my feet in one of the (very) few puddles that formed in our driveway. It was so funny, I looked around and half the neighborhood was outside doing the same thing! The pictures that follow should give you an idea of why we were celebrating...

You may remember seeing this picture from my Hometown Tour post. This is "Blue Hole" one of Georgetown's favorite outdoor spots.

This is what "Blue Hole" looks like now. The only blue I see is the sky.

Remember the peaceful scene with the ducks floating in San Gabriel Park?

I think for now they will have to be content with a mud bath! This is basically the same spot, just from a different angle. Everything looks so different right now that it's hard to get your bearings.

Low water bridge at Mankin's Crossing...

Guess we don't need the bridge at the moment.

Next time you complain about the rain, remember, you could have NONE! And if you have an over abundance this year, feel free to send some our way. Now, make sure to stop by Susan's and see what pretty scenes everyone is sharing. And you'll have to excuse me, I'm going to go pray for some more rain. And I'm leaving my car windows down at night for good measure - just checking out the accuracy of Murphy's Law!

Oh Kat, I am with you. Everything in our yard is dead that is with a capital D. We finally got a little tiny bit of rain last week, but such a small amount. I think they said about 1/4 inch. I know it is bad for you guys also, but I sure hope the rain starts soon. I'm about to go out and do a rain dance or something. Hugs, Marty

Well I live in a rain forest so I know to appreciate the rain even when we think it will never stop. And also appreciate Candles In The Rain. You really should do a Blip.fm playlist and be a d.j. on there. I'm on as lorenglish

I heard that Texas had been dry but the pictures really show it! We had too much rain in the spring and there was so much water that everyone had flooding. Not much better. Too bad we couldn't even it out.

Hi Kat...I am feeling your pain because that's where we were this time last year...after 3 years of drought! We have had a wonderfully rainy Spring and even Summer and the lakes are just about up to normal levels...so there is hope! Keeping my fingers crossed for your car window trick! Have a rainy weekend...hugs...Debbie

Lovely outdoor photos! I know exactly how you felt about the rain ... and certainly WISH we'd get some of the wet stuph here in Southern California. Thanks for sharing YOUR watery experience today ;--)

I'm sharing watery outdoor photos from my sister's visit to Ketchikan this morning at Small Reflections this week.

I feel the same way when we go a month without rain. Hopefully that drought is over now that Hurricane season has begun to send rain our way.

I normally don't care for music as I always have it too loud and it pops out at me but I do love the 60's music.

Wow, that is so sad looking! We are in a drought also, but because of the humidity things at least have a chance of surviving. I don't think my grapefruit tree is going to make it though. I was going to post a pic of it today, but it just depressed me all over again!

The good news is that the rain has finally reached us. I actually had to shut down the computer for about three hours, because the lightning was right over my house. We are supposed to have this all week, so keep your fingers crossed for me. I'll try and send some your way!

I would love to send some rain your way!! I'm serious, our lakes are way too high and all of our long weekends have been ruined due to the rain. I live on the Prairies, which normally does not see much rain in the summer time, well not this one! We cannot hardly even mow our lawns, they are always wet. I am sorry that you have not had what you need in the way of rain. I really wish we could send some your way. Such sad pictures. Thank you for leaving a sweet comment on my blog, our little grand daughter is quite a trooper! Hugs, Cindy S

I would probably do as you did about the rain. We need it so badly. The yards and flowers are burning up. So I can relate to what your are going through. Times will get better! I am glad you felt like leaving me a comment. I appreciate it.

I have often wondered why the rain seems to choose where it falls. Last time we had a storm here, just a mile away it was dry and not a tree limb was disturbed. Guess that's at the good Lord's direction. I wish you more raindrops.

Fascinating post! Thank you for sharing the joy of your recent rain with those delightful photographs!

We endured a season of watching things die here in West Tennessee two summers ago, during a very long dry spell. It's much better this time ... hope your weather improves very soon!

Hi Kathy...

Just wanted to stop by after reading your sweet note that you left for me on my "Celebration Giveaway"...thank you so much for coming by and for the sweet, sweet birthday and blog well wishes! I also wanted to take this time to tell you that I really appreciate you following Happy To Design...it's been such a pleasure getting to know you!!! Thank you, my friend! Wishing you the best in my book giveaway!!!

Ohhh dear...I know that Texas has been having such a rough time of it! When we were down there in June, I just couldn't believe how dry everything was. My folks live on Lake Corpus Christi...and I've never seen that lake so low! It's just heartbreaking! I have been praying...asking the good Lord to send ya'll rain!!! My sis lives just west of San Antonio...in the hill country...and she said that people are starting to have their water wells go dry...that is really getting serious! I'm praying Darlin'!!!

Thank you again, Kathy!
Warmest wishes,
Chari

Oh lordy, Kathy - I've been meaning to go up to the Blue Hole and now I'm so glad I didn't because I think I would have cried! My yard is just dead and fried and we didn't get rain at all when the showers were all around us. Our cistern/well dried up last month and no rain to replenish it and nothing coming from underground either. We went up to your GT dogpark and it's really great with all the shade but at 105 it was just too hot for me. Pray for rain...and a norther! :)Nancy

Thanks for leading me to this post. I never thought it gets that dry in Texas or anywhere else than HERE! :) But it´s good to know that we´re not the only ones and someone else knows what a treasure rain can be.
I´ve added you to my reader and will be following your blog.
