Saturday Centus - Friends

It's the weekend! Time to exercise your writing chops and join Jenny Matlock for Saturday Centus. It's such a fun idea. Mr. Jenny provides us with a prompt, and we write a short story around it. 100 words or less, not counting the prompt. You have to use the prompt in it's original form, then let your imagination run free. My contribution for this week is below, the prompt words are in bold font. Oh, and this week our prompt was written by Jeff Campbell, one of our weekly contributors! Thanks Jeff, this was a fun one!

Just when I thought I had made it through another day without drawing Sister Ignacia's unwanted attention, I felt the dreaded tap on my shoulder.

"Did you notice Elizabeth in class this morning and how forlorn she seemed?" Perhaps I will write her a comforting note, I thought. Maybe Sister would get off my back.

Why did Sister think that Elizabeth and I could ever be friends? Polar opposites, her biggest concerns were hair, makeup and clothes. Me? No makeup, long straight hair. Clothes? Whatever I threw on after rolling out of bed. Favorite accessories? Books.

" I'm sorry you're having a bad week. If you want to talk, call ." Duty done. And that little note led to the longest friendship of my life.

Great take on the prompt. And it rings true. I often think people are "not my type" initially who then end up to be good friends.

What a sweet story. It reminds a person not to judge a book by its cover, ha. Great Centus.

Kathy, this is such a sweet story, and with that prompt, it could have easily had a bad ending. I loved this. laurie

You chose one of the best nun names ever!

This was very well written, Kat - you actually had an entire story in your 100 words. That's talent!

Well done! I'm also a sucker for happy endings which you have, indeed, given us. I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary

LOVED this one. We never know who is going to turn out to be a "diamond in the rough".

I can hardly write this for trying to protect my knuckles. Sister Ignatius (close to your name) was one of the ruler-wielding nuns of my Catholic school days.

But I will be brave and continue with my comment.

Love the direction this little story took us.

Acceptance and tolerance. Don't leave home without it.

Another hit and I believe it is my favorite so far.

Your story reminded me of the beginning of many of my friendships. Not that they started with a note, but that they began by getting to know those who were different than me. Variety is the spice of life and friendships!

Bravo!

Kat, I agree with everyone else, you are REALLY good at this, you need to consider writing at least a short story! Thanks for stopping by and asking about about my reunion. It was ok. Wish I could say more, but honestly at of a class of 650 30 of us showed, and very few that I knew very well. We stayed for 5 hours talked alot, got dehydrated, and left. Glad you liked that video, it cracked me up, show your daughter, Nikki liked it too! Sue
