Alphabe Thursday - N is for
It's Thursday, time for my favorite class of the week. Alphabe Thursday is hosted by Mrs. Matlock at Jenny Matlock - Off on my Tangent. This week's assignment is for the letter N. I have no idea why this letter was so hard for me. I think my brain may be toast. While watching American Idol, it came to me. N stands for NO! Don't get me wrong, I actually like Mary J Blige. But really, Stairway to Heaven?
I'm a child of the sixties and seventies. I KNOW Stairway to Heaven. And even if it has become a cliched anthem to that time and place, it is still a classic. And it should be a law that no one other than Robert Plant can sing it.
I agree with the sign in the music store in Wayne's World - the one that says "No Stairway to Heaven". Yes dear readers, I just admitted to watching Wayne's World. And no, I will not tell you how many times I've watched it. You can't make me.
And I just realized that I admitted that my brain is toast and that I was watching American Idol. Do you think the two are related?
No, that can't be it. Now offer to stay after class and help read this week's essays.

No No No not the dreaded Stairway to Heaven.
I like Stairway to Heaven song, I remember it well..
I watched that last night too and I was really disappointed in all the celebrity performances except for Elton John. So, I really don't think your brain is fried. Hugs, Marty
I love that song, Kat but I did not watch American Idol so I do not how it was sung. I have to admit I watched Wayne's World too but only once, lol....Christine
I love Stairway to Heaven. I can never hear it too many times. Ha, I saw Wayne's World when it first came out. I liked that too LOL. But I don't watch Idol. So two out of three.
there is only one Stairway to Heaven and she did not do it justice...I think my brain was mush after watching Idol lastnight too....I just wanted to see who was going home....so we skipped back and forth...between Idol..and the Alamo with John Wayne...and Fox News...
Stairway to Heaven. Wow, did I love that song. Still do. Sure brings back memories.
I missed Idol last night. I should have watched just to get a little laugh. You are so funny...I'd never take you for a fan of Wayne's World!!
xoxo

so funny :D
What really get to me is when I hear the Stones on Muzak...
Love that song. Clever, funny post. Great job!
Fab song AND BLOG
After 14 weeks I think all of our brains are toast - now there's an idea for T!!

I'm your age and I don't get why all the GREAT songs that were done to perfection have to be re-done by the singers of today.
Why do we have to screw with perfection?
Love Stairway to heaven. Can't stand American Idol. And all I can remember from Wayne's World is shawinnnggg!
I agree about the Robert Plant law! My sister is addicted to American Idol, so I usually only watch it when she's around.
sometimes ... "making a song your own" ... as I have often heard the AI judges say ... just doesn't work.
I know I will get a ton of slack for even typing this but I dislike LZ...and stairway...and everything else they sing!! I do love MJB, but I thought her take on the song was HORRIBLE! She even looked uncomfortable 'rockin' out to the lady on guitar! Some things should just be left alone!
Love the song. Thought the rendition was rawwwwther indulllgent (just call me Simon) and I am totally rooting for Lee and Mommasox!
OK.
What a fun (and contraversial) stop on my little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "N"!
You stirred up the pot a little bit!
Good for you!
A+
I'm probably the only person in America that's never seen American Idol. (I've never seen Survivor either.)
I've always loved Robert Plant's voice, and you're right... he should be the only one to sing it!
Hope you're having a great day (or actually night) and that your weekend will be super, too. Miss you and hope to be blogging again soon if the workmen will only cooperate and finish!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Hi Kat! You are too funny...but saying exactly what I was thinking! Love that song...and the whole album. Can I still say album? I would be afraid to confess how many times I have watched Wayne's World! lol Have a great weekend...hugs...Debbie
I love the original - haven't heard the cover version but I don't think I want to!
it wasnt a match made in heaven was it........
Hi there!
Wow, I didn't know Mary J performed Stairway To Heaven in AI, she's usually very good and empowering onstage. I might have to watch a video later regarding her performance.
i think wayne's world is a classic---i find myself saying ex-squeeze-me as a matter of general conversation!
Stairway To Heaven was ALWAYS the last song at every high school dance. Those of us who didn't have a date made a quick exit as soon as we heard the first few notes!!
I agree, leave Stairway To Heaven to Robert Plant!!
Thanks again for helping to spread the word about Matt's campaign. We might have another giveaway for one of his paintings in a few months, so you'll have another chance to win :-)
Have a great weekend!!

I took guitar lessons in 8th grade. My boyfriend at the time was in a band and taught me a cheater version of STH. I came across the notes I took the other day because my 13 year old is now taking guitar and wanted to learn it. Yeah, good luck. I quote: "C thing, each string up, then G thing, double strum." Not really jogging the memory there. And I agree, though guitar students may play it, no one should sing it but Led Zeppelin.
The memories 'Stairway to Heaven' stirs up. Thanks for the blast to the past.
I was actually not in the room when Mary B. sang but I heard someone singing and thought Oh my who is that, they sound terrible. I came back into the room and there she was, so I say No, No,naanaa No!!
I don't watch American Idol, but I totally agree that classics shouldn't be messed with! ;-) I had a laugh at this post, Kathy!
I also had a smile at the comment you left for me yesterday... you're so good to me... you've SEEN my dining room before and you've been waiting patiently for me to finish my darned drapes, and yet you post such a positive comment! Thank you!! And yes, Brian loves his Cornona!!

OMG, Led Zeplin and Robert Plant, I can still remember when this song came out. It was awesome, just as awesome as Wayne's World!
Loved catching up on your recent posts and congratulations to your Caitlin! It also sounds like you are one busy woman. Wish I could help out at the clinic! My dog Sadie will be visiting an eye specialist today as she has an ulcer on her cornea. Wish us luck.
