Alphabe-Thursday - I is for Indiana Jones
Yippee! It's time for my favorite class, Alphabe-Thursday, instructed by everyone's favorite teacher, Mrs. Matlock. This week we are to write an essay on the letter I.
The first thing that popped into my head was "Indiana Jones"! This movie has a special place in my heart. I was very young, and had just moved to Philadelphia from a small town in Indiana. I certainly was not prepared for summer in the city! Rowhouses with window units could not keep up with the heat and humidity, and there was no relief in going outside, because I was surrounded by concrete! DH and I decided to splurge and go to a mall in New Jersey (free air conditioning!) While we were there, we saw a sign for a "sneak preview" of a new movie called "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark". It was worth a buck to sit in an icy cold theatre, so we went in. I will never forget the feeling of discovery that seeing this movie gave me. At last, I understood what my grandparents and parents had been talking about when they recounted the amazing movie serials they would see every Saturday. The lighting, the production, the score all had that same magical feel. And the map with the little plane moving over it - genius! I just loved the premise of the mild mannered college professor turned swashbuckling hero. He even shared my snake phobia! And I will admit, if Harrison Ford had been one of my teachers I probably would have paid alot more attention in class!
I love the entire Indiana Jones series, although the Temple of Doom was probably my least favorite. But Raiders will always be my number one, because it was such an unexpected and pleasant surprise. And yes, we do have the entire series on DVD, as well as all the soundtracks. But these movies really are best when seen in a theatre, preferably an old fashioned one with a gigantic screen and reclining seats.
Now run to Mrs. Matlock's class to hear everyone's essays. You wouldn't want to get detention for being tardy!

I can't wait until my boys are old enough to see it. Of course, they are in that phase where they only want to watch things they've already seen! It makes me crazy.
Oh, Indy...my heart pitter-patters.
I cannot TELL YOU how I almost screamed in angst at the end of the last movie where his hat was almost picked up but at the last minute he swiped it. Oh, the sigh of relief! Whew! There is no other Indiana Jones, no matter how they try to revamp the series.
Where in Philly did you live? I might be a Jersey girl now but my heart will always be across the river!
Yep, Harrison Ford fan here, but the best one was with Sean Connery as his dad, now I am showing my age LOL

me too me too!!! i love the Indy!!! Totally yummy "i" post!
i love that he named himself after the dog :D
Thank you for bringing back memories of this great series of films! It's difficult to imagine anyone as Indiana Jones other than Harrison Ford. I'm sure you've heard that Tom Selleck turned down the role.
From wikipedia:
Selleck, after years of little interest, was cast as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I.. Magnum, P.I. producers would not release the actor and he had to pass on the title role of Indiana Jones, which then went to Harrison Ford. The decision of choosing the role of Indiana Jones vs. Magnum actually haunted him so much that before making the decision, he consulted his best friend on what to do. Together they came to the conclusion that honoring the contract with Universal Studios was the honorable thing to do. It turned out that the shooting of the pilot for Magnum was delayed for over six months (due to a writers' strike) which would have enabled him to complete the role as Indiana Jones.
I'm sure Selleck would have done a fine job (but I'm glad it went to Ford!).
Hope you have an enjoyable weekend. ;)

The Indiana Jones movies are my all time favorites. I have seen each of them countless times and would love to see another sequel.
A great idea for this week's post.
Oh I love the Indiana Jones movies. I do love Raiders but I think I really loved Last Crusade. It doesn't get much better with both Harrison Ford AND Sean Connery. Thanks...enjoyed the music too. :)
That is such a good post. We have the whole box set. Love it.. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by and sharing kind words.
Oh I am back to say to your DH Thanks for you comment. It made my day and made me smile.. :)
I remember watching these movies when I was a teenager.
I think those movies are some of the best! Its so funny, hubby and I were discussing movie viewing on the way home jsust a few minutes ago. He said he would just as soon wait and watch movie on the plasma, and I LOVE to go to the theatre! I am not much of a fan of 3D, but I will never pass up a good adventure flick!
