Weekend Reflections - Georgetown Icon

It's time once again for Weekend Reflections, graciously hosted each week by James at Newtown Area Photo. Be sure to visit and see some beautiful photography from around the world. I got a new camera for Christmas (guess DH got tired of me borrowing his) We set out the Saturday after Christmas to try it out. These are some shots of a Georgetown icon, the Monument Diner. This favorite local diner quickly outgrew it's original location and the owners built a new restaurant right up the road. They did a wonderful job of recreating it, just enlarged it and added more parking. The old building is sitting unused at the moment, but will soon be renewed as a local market selling locally grown produce, dairy and meat. I can't wait!

Make sure to stop by and say hello to James and see what everyone is sharing this week!

I'm like you. It seems like I'm always sizing up reflections for pictures. I like your shots, they remind me of the place where my wife and I used to eat Saturday breakfast when we lived in Irving TX. It was called The Local Diner. :)

My husband received a Diners, Dives & Driveins cookbook. We always watch that show as much for the buildings as the food.

Nice shots, especially the second. I love glass block when used properly. Diners are neat. I live in NJ where there are probably more diners than anywhere else in the world. Nothing like breakfast in a good diner.

Glad you got a new camera, Kathy! These shots are great. And I'm happy for you that the diner is still around and that its previous location will be a local market! Yea! I love local produce.

Hi Kathy!

What a fabulous diner and I'm glad the original one will still be able to be used in a good way.

Enjoy your new camera! I'm still trying to figure the one I got for my birthday out...so much to learn! :-)

PS To answer your question in your comment to me-- I'm not sure where those gingerbread creations were built. My guess is that they were made at each bakery and then transported. They all had a base of some sort

What would we do without our digital cameras? I remember when the Polaroid came out and we thought that was cool. Glad to see this great space will some be home to such a great venture.
Hope you have a stellar 2010.

Congrats on the new camera!

First, I love that they recreated the first diner only larger and secondly, I love that the original will be used to sell local products. This is a win-win in my book.

Happy New Year!

I love this post. That diner is so beautiful. I would love to just walk right in, sit down and order a burger and fries, I think they are calling me. Thank you as always for sharing.

Here's wishing you happiness, love, prosperity, peace and good health.
