Welcome to Themed Thursday, graciously hosted by KD at Southern Whimsey. Visit her at http://southernwhimsy.blogspot.com/ to see a list of this weeks participants. While you're there, check out KD's great home ideas! You'll be glad you stopped by.
This weeks theme is "Furry Friends, Real and Faux". I know she looks stuffed in this picture (the cat silly), but our little Sax is very real indeed. When our daughter was in high school, she worked part time at the veterinary practice that I manage. We had lost our 3 dogs and 2 cats within 2 years, and just could not bring ourselves to get another. DH and I thought that it would be best to hold off on any pets with Cait getting ready to go to college. It's a big responsibility to care for one of these little creatures, and we assumed (and we were right!) that we might be taking alot of weekend trips for football games, recitals and the like. One day, Cait came home from work and was acting rather odd. I asked how her shift went, and she would not turn to look at me. It was February and she had on a heavy coat. As she turned to go to her room, I saw a little fuzzy head pop out of her jacket! "But Mom," she pleaded. "She was laying in a rain puddle next to the dumpster at work, I couldn't just leave her there" Of course, at this point we had not had a dog or cat in the house for over 2 years. So, we had no cat food, litter, litter pan, or any of the kitty "necessities" I also did not want to get attached to a stray cat that had not been checked out first. So I told Cait to take her up to the clinic and put her in the isolation room, and I would have one of the Doctors check her the next day. If she got a clean bill of health, and Cait purchased the basic cat necessities, we would keep her on a trial basis. The next day, Dr. Webster checked her over well, tested her for all the nasty kitty viruses that are out there, vaccinated her and gave us the thumbs up to take her home. We also discovered that she had a spay scar and was declawed! Sax has turned out to be the best cat we have ever had. She is very social and loves nothing better than laying in our lap or on our chest, attempting to con us into a nap! Turns out napping is the thing she does best, she is the QUEEN of naps! I have read that the average house cat spends 13-18 hours a day sleeping, I think she is trying to beat that average. This is her "pout pose" when I remove her from my lap to use the computer! DH says I bought the new sofa because it matched the cat - hey at least the hair doesn't show as badly!
This is Sax pretending not to be asleep - she's just "resting her eyes"
She likes to hide around the corner and pounce on your leg when you come through - she thinks you can't see her!
Staring out the window at her neighborhood boyfriend - Romeo, oh Romeo! She's not allowed outside, daddy is very protective, and remember, she's been declawed. Besides, we have some wicked mockingbirds in our yard! And please, please, please forgive the holy mess in this room - this is Cait's room (I promise you Barney purple was not my idea) and until we redo this room it has become a storage shed! Notice the unframed art on the chair? The glass table top leaning against the window? You should see the other side of the room, or no, maybe you shouldn't.
This is Sax saying so long, it was nice to visit, but she needs her beauty sleep! I hope you enjoyed meeting our little fur person. Please remember that stray and shelter pets need a home too, and they usually make the very best pets. It's almost as if they understand that you saved their lives, and the unconditional love and patience they offer is beyond compare!

Ohhhh! Kathy! You know I loved this post! It sounds like Sax landed in the perfect home! I am laughing because all the blinds in my house are pulled part-way up, too!! And such a beautiufl furry coat!! There is nothing like a cat who loves to sit in your lap...I have one...and my favorite quality is loud purring!! Thanks for letting us get to know Sax a little better!...hugs to Sax...Debbie
Kathy - we have a kitty that looks just like your Sax!! Our Shelby has the same colouring, lenth of hair... everything! And we adopted her from our Vet - so definitely a rescue :-) In fact, both of our cats are rescues!! I completely agree with you, rescue cats are wonderful!!
Thanks for sharing!

Sax is so cute! I am glad Cait took her home....Christine
Oh my goodness, your Sax reminds me so much of our beautiful cat BooBoo who ran off and we assume was "adopted" because he was such a sweet and pretty mellow fellow. This was several years ago and we spent WEEKS putting up signs and everything trying to find him. Boo Hoo! No more BooBOO!

We used to have cats when I was a child and a teenager.

What a great story! Our neighbors cat think she is ours. We are fine with that. Although we are an allergic household these little guys pull at our heartstrings so it is nice for us to "have" a kitty that we can borrow in small doses. My daughter recently took some great pictures of Kitty Rose with her new camera but we did not get them loaded in time to post on Themed Thursday. Maybe next time!
what a great story. I love reading these types of things. i'm glad it worked out for both of you and another of gods creatures found a loving, good home.
Kathy, Sax is so cute and such personality. You really could almost see a real pout. lol Cait is so sweet to rescue him, and I know you're just as much a softie. Beautiful and loving post. Hugs, Marty
Kathy, what a great story...
I sure Sax misses your daughter..
I'm glad you let her keep Sax.
What a cutie she is!! We have a kitty too, but you know that - I blog about her often enough!! She is really Meghan's cat - but now that Meghan is gone, Tory and I are testing each other in every possible way!!
Sax is very cute. But your description of life w/ her reminds me why I don't have cats. *grins*
I used to have a cat too that would jump up on my lap. Sometimes I would notice her on my lap and not realize when she jumped up. Then when I wanted to get up to do something, I felt trapped and didn't want to disturb her. How crazy is that? lol
Hi Kathy...I loved this post! We used to have an outside, stray cat that we & the rest of the neighborhood would feed when our son was in high school...it was colored & marked very much like your Sax...one day when our son came home from shopping, he'd bought this multi-colored sweater that looked so much like the stray...we always referred to the the kitty from that day on as "sweater cat"...thanks for the sweet memory! ;-) Bo
OH Kathy now girl you got me with Sax..how pretty is he..love this post girl...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

Ohhhh! I love little Sax. I would have kept her too.
Very pretty cat.
Our Chestnut is a rescued stray.
I found him in our backyard on Christmaas Eve 2003.
He was 2 pounds and the most precious thing I had ever seen.
He lived with a group of strays in the woods behind us.
He went to the vet the next day. Checked out fine. He was declawed and neutered at 6 months. He is our completly spoiled HUGE boy at a whopping 22 pounds.
He has never been outside again since the day I caught him. He does not know the difference and doesn't miss a thing.
He loves to stare out the dining room window all day sitting on a chair.
We call him our little mountain lion. He's a chunk allright.
Have a wonderful weekend.
